PM Interview experience at Nykaa

Round 1  - Problem Solving.
Round 2 - Technical Knowledge
Round 3 - Interview
Round 4 - Interview

Round 1 - Problem Solving / RCA.

Interview type: Root Cause analysis. You see the number of people cancelling the order increasing. Cancel window 24 hours. What would you do?

How do you approach -

  1. Clarify each part of the question eg: Are cancellations only before shipping?
  2. Narrow down the problem. I narrowed it down to shade issues and price issues
  3. How do you figure out the issue - look at data.  People were reordering
  4. Start thinking from a User journey perspective - how does the user figure they’ve ordered a wrong shade ? Order confirmation notification
  5. What do you do about it so that new order is not generated? You can define the new flow now.

Round 2 - Technical Knowledge

Data and tech skills focussed. Had to write actual SQL queries on Repurchase frequency, what is the time window between successive purchases. Ultimate goal was to bucket user transactions via time window on a period scale.

Round 3 - Interview

Question: The govt has announced that it’ll stop E-KYC for private players. How can you ensure credibility in lending?

How do I approach

  1. Start with Scoping - What did KYC give you? Inputs: Aadhaar, Output: Name, address, PAN. Value prop : Time savings, collections
  2. Now what are the 2 problems - How to get the data without KYC and How to do collections if data not there
  3. New suggestions - think easy ways to get this info with minimal user friction but ensuring data accuracy, fraud handling, default handling etc

Round 4 - Interview

Behavioural discussion on resume, guesstimate, design, favourite product. Then got a strategy question.

Was asked the following questions in this round -

  1. Three things you like about my favourite product
  2. Three things you don’t like - wow features you’ll add
  3. What was the last thing you did on the product
  4. Product strategy question - You need to launch self-driving cars in India in 2 years. You’re the India head for Uber self-driving car project.
